Home Care- Visiting Service
The Visiting service provides companionship and friendship for lonely, isolated and housebound older people living in their own homes in Sandwell.
Importantly, the aim of the service is to provide a listening ear and a caring, sensitive approach to the emotional and practical needs of older people, since this is often their only link to the wider community.
The service is managed by our part-time co-ordinator Madhu, with the support of volunteers. The visit is normally once a week for one to two hours.
A typical comment from last year:
"Thank you for introducing me to your volunteer, who visits me every week and and brings in some shopping if I need it; we chat together over a cup of tea about days gone by."
Thanks to funding recieved from The Charles Hayward Foundation, we are now in a position to expand our Visiting Service and are currently recruiting new volunteers for this, if you would like to join our team then please call Sue Davies, Volunteer Admin Support Samantha Cannon Visiting service administrator or Madhu Sharma, Visiting Service Co-ordinator on 0121 500 1860.
We can offer training in many courses to our volunteers, and we have regular meetings to ensure all our volunteers are supported in their role as visitor. Some of our volunteers have been with us for over ten years, just an example of the caring and support provided in the community by our volunteer visitors.
